Indigenes of Ilorin Emirate, particularly those who are Islamic scholars, have been reminded of the need to always present themselves as worthy ambassadors of the community everywhere they find themselves.

This appeal was made over the weekend by the National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, while speaking at the 41st day prayer session held for the further repose of the soul of a prominent Muslim cleric, Shaykh Abdulwahab Banni Afonta, which held at the deceased"s residence in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Alhaji Abdulmalik, who led a delegation of members of the National Executive Council of the Union to the event, condoled the family of the late prominent cleric, recalling that Shaykh Afonta was a great ambassador- plenipotentiary of what Ilorin Emirate is all about.

The IEDPU President said that the late scholar lived a life worthy of emulation and was a pride not only to the Union but also to Ilorin Emirate and the global Muslim community as he lived what he preached throughout his life.

He added that he and his entourage were at the event because the Union believed that it must identify itself with such a great patriot who was not just a rallying figure for the people of Ilorin Emirate sojourning in Osogbo and its environs but also honoured the Union's Invitations to several events during his lifetime.

He urged the surviving children, relatives, students and disciples of the late scholar to ensure that his legacies are not only preserved but also built upon for the benefit of all.

Alhaji Abdulmalik prayed to Allah to forgive the shortcomings of Shaykh Afonta and reward him with Aljanat Fridaouz as he also prayed to Allah to continue to prosper all he left behind.

Responding, Shaykh Muhammad Haadi Banni and Shaykh Muhammad Quozeem Afonta, who are the younger brother and the eldest son of the deceased, respectively, thanked Alhaji Abdulmalik and his entourage for gracing the event.

They also assured IEDPU that they would leave no stone unturned at upholding the legacies of the deceased.

The delegation also paid a thank you visit to the Matron of the Western Zone of IEDPU, Hajiya Fatimah Toyin Shuaib, at her Osogbo residence.
